Changes

Posted by Lynn on April 11th, 2009

this blog will be changing into something new and way better.

i suppose i should elaborate more than that. Brandy and I have realized that in this economy, nobody is buying anything, which makes having a fashion business really unprofitable. in fact for the past few years we’ve been putting out way more than we’ve been making. so it’s time for a change. we are no longer in the fashion business. we will keep the etsy store, but it will be changing into accessories and tshirts only. we spent way too much time, money and effort making one of a kind clothing that nobody seems to want. that said, there will be a sale in the store to get things out and then it will exist on it’s own.

we also are creating a new business. there are a ton of pieces of amazing furniture out there that people are selling for pennies. Brandy and I both love decor and design and have decided that is a better avenue to go down. this is something we are doing strategically to see how much we can save by thinking smart and spending only where we need to. We will be shamelessly self promoting and trying to get our items into shops all over as well as in a new etsy shop. this means the blog will be changing too, as well as it’s home.

we are thinking of getting rid of 2girlsplastic.com as a functional site. we will still keep the url but will direct it to a page on our new site. the blog is going to no longer be my blog, where i whine and bitch and then post funny things. it will still have fun and odd stories, but it will be a combined blog, with posts written by both Brandy and I and with more aspirational tones. topics will include the projects we’re doing, “before and after”s, products we love, DIY projects, and general info/ideas. the blog will also look different, to match the new site of course.

I think this is the smartest direction we can go in. we learned a lot about running a business with 2 Girls & Plastic and have so much to carry forward into the next venture. I’ll keep you posted on when things are happening and will be trying to save and transfer relevant posts, like the fabulous socks and shoes i love and how the home decor is going.

Wood grain socks? Ya i’d wear em.

I have a favorite site that i check pretty often as i am into the vinyl toys and other awesome things. Yesterday they featured Super Mario warp tube socks. i clicked the link to the site they sell them on and found these which i think are INFINITELY cooler. Um, wood grain socks? Heck yes!

I also am in love with these Notebook paper socks too.

I might wear these this spring with cute flats and knee skirts. anyone else want a pair? :D

Maria, you NEED these

Posted by Lynn on March 9th, 2009

J and i went to DSW yesterday as he wanted some new swankville shoes to wear and i can always use shoes. (I am a woman after all) Of course the second i step into the store i’m greeted by these lovelies sitting next to each other (the blue and the yellow, they also had green). I instantly gravitated towards the blue and grabbed a box in my size only to open them up and discover i got the only 8.5 in a color but they are yellow. No matter, the yellow are SUPER cute and they fit like a dream! So i’m going to buy the other colors online and have 4 pairs of the exact same wedge but in different colors. That’s what you’re supposed to do when you find something you love that fits really well right? like the perfect t-shirt? in this case it’s the perfect wedge. I LOVE THESE!

Maria, you must get the yellow! then we can be opposite coast shoe twins!

Room decor revamp

Posted by Lynn on February 19th, 2009

Look at me posting a few days in a row! i wonder how long this will last, haha.

For a while now i’ve been living in a state of no design awesomeness. Let me explain that a little more as it seems really vague. I have put my creativity into work, and into 2GP and into other things and have let the little apartment go along as it is, and it’s been feeling much less awesome than it could be. awesome is a technical term in case you were wondering.

Recently J and i went and bought a new sofa cover. The one that had been on the sofa came with the sofa when his parents gave it to us a few years ago, and as much as we love the sofa, the cover has just been really dark and kinda depressing. So we switched it out for a nice sagey green, not my first choice, but sofa covers, unless you make them yourself, are very limited in color selection. With this little change i started to look at our environment and wow, does it need some freshening. So i have plans for the living room, but i’ve gone down another path than what i started at. So save that in the back of your mind for another day.

What is really way more important (haha) is my room. When J and i moved here we were combining our lives together and all our stuff together, but we could never really agree on a specific “look” for our bedroom. Since breaking up and moving into the larger apartment as best friends, we have both been struggling to find ourselves design-wise. Ladies and gentlemen, after a really long time and lots of failed attempts, i have found my bedroom of awesomeness. It’s black and white with pops of color and a little whimsy thrown in to keep things interesting, and I LOVE IT. See below…

If you’re interested in anything, here is what/where to get most of it:
Artwork:
Bunny and Squirrel Illustrations by Berkeley Illustration
Zebra Finches by yumiyumi (i’m going to get the darker blue one though)
Queen by badbird
She Bled Gold by JMaylone ( i have this already as i live with him but if you love it and want to buy it i’ll happily give it up)
Keep Calm Poster by sfbaygirl

Other Furnishings:
Bedspread at Target
Hemnes Dresser at Ikea
Polka Dot bowls from Ikea
Lamps from Pottery Barn and i forget where else.

I have most of this written down as i’m creating a budget so i can get it all in a relatively short amount of time. I also have my eye on a headboard at my local thrift store, so i’m hoping it doesnt go anywhere. If i can snag it i’ll have a $34 solid wood headboard that i’m going to paint all black to accent the bed. can we say amazingcakes? i think so! i’ll post before and after photos of the room and the headboard project. :D

this is me jumping up and down with excitement.

Taking the bus

Posted by Lynn on February 18th, 2009

Since December I’ve been taking the bus to work. The company moved to a new building more centrally located in downtown and it has limited the available parking. So they (the company) came up with a program that allows you to pay to park, carpool for free or take the bus and get paid for it (and have your bus pass covered by the company). I chose option 3 for a few reasons: #1 i get paid a little bit extra every month not to park (Yay money!), #2 I get to save $ on gas, #3 no road rage! This has made my trip to and from work longer though, as i have to take two busses and it takes about 40 minutes door to door, whereas when i was driving it would take 20 minutes and i wasnt on a time schedule. That was much nicer for the mornings when i woke up a little late. Now if i wake up late i either have to run to the bus stop or wait for the later one which can throw off my whole commute and make it even longer, but thats the trade off for more sleep i suppose.

Most mornings i catch the 7:36 bus. Yep, that early. it’s painful. Especially when there is snow/rain/freezing temperatures, but i found out that the bus came early and it’s route began right next to where my apartment is. One particularly cold morning the bus driver let me sit in the bus because he said i looked like i was really cold, and from that day on, every morning he would let me on the bus early and we’d talk for a few minutes about different things. I have to say that i loved that bus driver, he reminded me of my dad, if my dad was from Boston and had and accent. He was about my dad’s age too and was so much fun to talk to. I was super bummed when he told me that as of the first week of February he would be driving another route. I guess they change routes and drivers every month so they dont get burnt out on the same route too much. He had tried to get the route again but was trumped by a full time driver that wanted that route. The route also changed and no longer starts at my complex but on another street. The new bus driver leaves much to be desired too. I am sad, i’ll get over it, but i hope that driver comes back. it was fun to talk to him every morning.

hi there, remember me?

Posted by Lynn on February 15th, 2009

i’m not sure where my time goes anymore, but it’s definitely not here on the blog. I’d like to say that there is something interesting to report, but alas, there is not. there are however, random things that have occurred in the past few weeks.

I have joined and then unjoined match.com. the results being that every guy who is fat, balding and older than me by about 10 years (or any combination of those three) has been what hits on me. the attractive few that i have spoken to either turn out to be way too overzealous and wanted to share even the most minute detail with me (yawn) or they’ve been super sweet and normal until i get the “i am so sorry, but i shouldnt be dating right now. it’s a personal thing.” emails. (which really means, i’m not over my ex, or she wants me back and thus i cant concentrate on meeting you for something as mundane as coffee and possibly friendship) which only reinforces the theory that guys are only interested if they think they can get sex out of it. suh-weet.

I have been working on new things for 2gp, but it’s slow going and money is tight so thats about all there is to that.

i have been working on finally figuring out how i want my bedroom to look. after years of sharing a bedroom with J and then us now being roommates, i’ve sort of given up my style and was having problems finding it again. Brandy helped me put together a mood board yesterday and i LOVE my new room. Now i’m in the process of getting the bits to make it all come together. i have to put together a budget and start getting things but i’m sure it will look awesome when it’s done. I’ll definitely post before and after photos here to share. :)

i think thats it for now, between work, bussing to and from work, working on 2gp in the evenings and on the weekends, going to the gym and trying to function as a human being (and pay attention to my friends) i have little time left for much more that sleep these days. Dating is going to have to take sleep’s place but for now i have no prospects (thank you match, for burning me out on people) so for the moment yay sleep!

US Trendy Design Competition

Posted by Lynn on January 26th, 2009

I am very excited to announce that we have been invited to join the US Trendy Spring Fashion Competition. We have submitted three images from the Lola Collection and need everyone to go vote on them so we can make it into the finals! The submissions are named “The girls”, “Bird of a Different Feather Tee” and “Ties” and we chose them as the best out of our collection. If we can make it into the finals we will compete against 9 other designers and if we win we will get a cash prize to use towards the production of our clothing, and since we are already producing the items it will help keep the ball rolling with our new designs.

And.. since i have your attention for now, would yu also go check out our page on US Trendy and vote for us? the higher visibility we have, the more we sell and the faster we crank out the new designs! our page is here.

One last thing… i’m working on the new colleciton and will be sneak previewing it on etsy and possibly on UsTrendy.com. We also have a shoot tentatively scheduled for March for the new collection as well. it will be fantastic i can assure you!

Color Hunter

Posted by Lynn on January 2nd, 2009

one of the designers i work with had the Color Hunter site up on her screen and i came by and asked, “what is that? it’s so cool!!”. turns out you can make a color palette from a photo, which is pretty awesome. So it’s now in my bookmarks and i’m going to upload some of my own photos and see what it comes up with.

I did a search on my favorite car and found a few color palettes. I like the first two best. now go play!!

Lynn: so my screen door was frozen shut
Alyssa: haha
Lynn: its funny, but then kinda scary
i could die in my home!
ok, not really
Alyssa: working on a new self portrait
you could starve or somethin
Lynn: oooh self portrait!
i went shopping yesterday so wont starve for a little bit
and i’m totally going to donner party it up if i have to
“mmmmm… brains….”
Alyssa: starting with the cats or Justin?
Lynn: i was actually thinking of small neighborhood children

annoyance

Posted by Lynn on December 11th, 2008

i try not to complain on this blog too much. i dont think it’s very constructive or that anyone really cares to hear me vebal vomit onto my keyboard. today i’ll make an exception though, haha.

i am a person about schedules. i like things clearly defined in advance for most of my days off or my evenings. i dont really have a lot of free time once you add up the 40 hours a week i work and all the extra projects i have and the sleep that i need.

So it really bugs me when people make plans with me and then flake out, or they take forever to figure out a time to meet. All i need from someone is a set time, if you have stuff to do, factor that in before you talk to me and then tell me a time to meet up. If you’re going to flake out on me, dont deliver it prefaced with a “sorry”. you’re not actually sorry, otherwise you wouldnt flake. just say straight away… “i cant make it to dinner/shopping/etc.” i dont even need an explanation as most likely it has nothing to do with me. And in most cases, i’m fine to reschedule and use my now free time to do something else, or i’ll just go without you.

i’m not singling anyone out in my life in this, it’s just something i’ve noticed a lot lately and it’s really become something that bothers me. This is not to say that i’m like a drill seargent with my life, i have days where i laze about and dont really accomplish anything, i call those Sundays. Or sick days. Everyone needs those. I’d just like the planned days to be actually planned.
