so… hot…

Posted by Lynn on June 28th, 2008

well, it’s not as hot as other places, but today it’s been about 90 degrees, which for Seattle is HOT. When it gets this hot (and muggy.. 44% humidity? is that good or bad?) the fan sales go up immediately. i really should have a fan and heater store somewhere. i’d be so rich by now!

but it is hot. more uncomfortable than anything. and not nearly as bad as it gets on the east coast or from what i remember of Japan and really i’m just complaing to complain. i’m off to the shower now to cool off and then put on a cute skirt and tank top. :)

the return of bananamilk

Posted by Lynn on June 24th, 2008

you might remember how excited i was when i found out there was such a thing as banana milk. well, over the past few months, i went back repeatedly to the downtown Uwajimaya and had no luck whatsoever in finding the banana milk. until saturday. i was taking J’s parents there as they have nothing like it where they live. to my utter surprise, sitting in the cold section next to the soy milk was a little row of banana milk juice boxes.

i immediately grabbed 6 of them and put them into our cart. the joy of finally finding them was so great i immediately sent J a photo of one in my hand. VICTORY! we now have 4 juice boxes of crack banana milk left and we are saving them for a special occasion as there is no telling when they will be gone again. i just thought you might like to know that i’ve gotten my fix. :P

Yay Brentanyon!

Posted by Lynn on June 23rd, 2008

I grew up in LA area, you may or may not know this. it really depends on if you know me over the interwebs or in real life. i think most of the people that read this blog already know me so this is, in fact, old info. After high school i met a group of friends and through that group met someone that would become one of my oldest friends. the person that introduced us all pretty much dropped off the face of the planet but there are a few of us that still talk on a regular basis (hi yuri!). Brent is one of those people. He and i were friends thru this former person and when i was getting ready to choose a college to go to he was transferring from the AI in SF to Otis in LA. the following semester i had started there and that’s how we became good friends. After college Brent needed a room mate and i needed a place to live so we were a perfect fit for room mates. We got into an apartment in West Hollywood and there were many tales to be had (more of which i will elaborate on at a later date).

During that time Brentanyon (as i lovingly call him) was trying to get his music career off the ground and was in various bands. none of which seemed to be very successful until the last one, where they went on tour and then because of the actions of the lead singer (i think) they got kicked off their label and once again Brent was looking for a new band. Around this time i met J and we moved to Seattle together. Over time i went to LA a few times and stayed with Brent or visited him for lunch. we ended up catching up more thru email and on the phone every few months. He found a new band and they recorded a CD and went on tour. and this last week (the 12th) i finally got to see them perform (hell of a lead in eh?).

It was a great show, even if the crowds were a little lackluster. They got placed with bands that were more electronic/goth than rock and i think that changed the dynamic of the night. i shot some photos of the performance so yo can see what they are like. the venue had fun with the lighting and really was excited to have them. and the coolest part was that over the following weekend i got to see brent and his lovely girlfriend and we had time to catch up and just chill. now i have to get to LA to see them perform in better venues to a bigger fan base.

this is the best photo i got all night:

Chris, Brent and Jinxx

so very rock and roll! (Carlton, Brent and Jinxx)

my work computer is haunted

Posted by Lynn on June 16th, 2008

today i was in the middle of clicking something and all of a sudden my computer at work decided that right then was a perfect time for a restart. it closed all my programs and proceeded to log out, shut down, and restart. it was a little curious, but i was able to log back in fine and get everything back going with no problems. so now i believe my computer is haunted. perhaps someone of a tech origin can explain this to me. did i hit one random key that made it do that?

**********************************

lately i have been so busy i can barely keep up with everything so i will make lists of what has been going on and what will get blog posts. (in italics!)

2GP - what we’ve been doing/attempting to accomplish with ranges of success

1. screening all the outstanding shirts for the site (slooww!!)
2. cleaning all the images and make them all pretty for both the brochure and the site
3. putting the brochure together and designing that
4. getting J to finish loading magento so we can start to design and populate the site
5. starting to idea/design the fall/winter collection
6. finish outlying projects (men’s button down shirts, etc)
7. Shoot all extra items for site, prep CU shots for the garments
8. take one screen to the printers to be re-burned with adjusted artwork (to do!)

Life items:
1. paint the plane for the mini golf(!!) tourney at work
2. go see a close friend’s band play in Seattle, and then hang with him and his lady
3. set up, cook for, and entertain at the bbq
4. finish the last of the unpacking and try to get the decorating done
5. sew window treatment (still have to do this, but it’s planned out!)
6. help a friend with her costume for a parade next week (she has my sewing machine so the previous item is on hold)
7. flirt with hot guys (this is also a still to do… anyone know any hot guys?)
8. hang with A and laugh at her dog and his random hatred of feathers (i’m going to post video to youtube, he’s hilarious)
9. book the japan trip (there WILL be a post about this. I’m annoyed by a few things.)

thats about it for now, and all that coupled with a full time job is making for a tired me. coming up this weekend we have J’s parents coming into town and i am still working on the items mentioned above. after this i’m going to need two vacations. one to japan to visit friends and explore and whore out 2GP and another to lie on a beach and forget my name from too many drinks with umbrellas in them. (that will be September and then December if all goes right)

mocked by a water droplet

Posted by Lynn on June 8th, 2008

i have this beloved water cup that i keep in my room for those middle of the night “I’m thirsty” moments as well as just general water drinking in my house. J has his too, and we bought them when we first moved to Seattle. When he suggested the favorite cup i thought he was a little nutty, one solitary cup that is wherever i am to keep me hydrated? surely you jest! up until that point i had been using water bottles, and refilling them and leaving them by the side of the bed, but this was creating plastic waste (that i found out doesn’t always get recycled!). So i succumbed to the single cup and it has become my good friend for the past 4 years. Always there for me when I’m thirsty, happy to lift my spirits with its glossy purple sheen. i began to love that cup! i would hand wash it most of the time and toss it into the dishwasher when i thought it could use a good sterilizing and for the first year it was great.

It’s time to paarrr-taaayyy!

Posted by Lynn on May 31st, 2008

the shoot went unbelievably amazingly well. the hair and makeup was right on and the clothes looked so great on everyone! we hit our main shot list and deviated a little too. the girls were such fun to work with and the guys were great too, although we only shot them in a few shirts (we’re still working on the rest of those). I thought I’d post some behind the scenes photos that J took for us when he wasn’t modeling. they turned out so great and he shot in black and white for us, which makes it a great juxtaposition for the full color shots of the models and clothing.

below are my 5 favorite shots:

Alyssa showing us what she had just captured (and she’s all done up for her turn in front of the camera)

I actually had a post in mind

Posted by Lynn on May 29th, 2008

…too bad it got lost in my brain and buried under my “To Do” list.

tomorrow is the 2gp shoot (our very first ever that doesn’t involve me standing on my balcony, trying to pose, wearing one of our tees). we have 6 models total, all friends, and we’re getting everything finished today. we have someone coming tomorrow to do hair and makeup, and almost everyone has been fitted and the clothes look super cute. we have gathered our ideas and created a shot list and people pairings and i’m feeling a little less stressed. we still have a handful of shirts to screen and embellish and a few things left to sew so tonight is going to be a late night… followed by an early morning and a long day. wee?

i’m actually super excited about this. it’s finally a realization, not just Brandy and i playing with fabric and screening things for the fun of it. and hopefully it comes out half as cool as i envision it. that’s all for now… maybe tomorrow night I’ll post a sneak peek of the shoot. that is if I’m alive (read: not passed out from exhaustion or better yet too much wine). :)

I’m going to attempt to keep this shorter as I’m doing a hundred different things in preparation for the 2gp photo shoot on Friday.

You may have seen in the last post where i was told i would be singing on rock band at the next bbq and had written it in bold to stress the importance of it. yep. right down there. well, i laughed it off and practiced my singing in the car, when i was alone, and the music could drown out my singing lest anyone think I’m killing a cat in my vehicle. i joked about it with various people, that i would probably get up there and massacre the songs. (i’ve never been one to boast about singing, as i’ve met one too many people when i lived in LA that swore they could sing yet couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket) Saturday night rolled around and i realized that unless i figured out what songs were on the game i’d be in really bad shape. So i asked Brandy and she whipped out the game and handed me the microphone so i could practice.

“hahahahahaha. practice? me? i’m not going to sing! i don’t care if i said i would! not going to happen… ok, hand me the mic… ok no take it back take it back i cant do this.”

this went on for probably a good 15 minutes, while Brandy sang songs to me. She has no shame and i love it. she didn’t care if she didn’t know the words or was playing around and changing the words. so i finally got up the courage and sang a few songs. ones i actually knew! i sang Weezer, and i think something from nine inch nails, and then some new song she downloaded for me. it was really fun! but it was only in front of Brandy. don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying doing it in front of Brandy was nothing, it was a huge feat, but with her i could put peas up my nose and wear my pants backwards and she would still think i was fine. the trouble comes when i have to do it in front of our other friends. at a bbq.

they have no qualms about singing and playing in front of each other as they have been playing this game together since it came out. and before that they were rocking out with guitar hero. i’m a newb to the whole thing, I’m terrible at guitar hero, but most because my fingers want to hit the wrong buttons, which i know you can learn, thats no big deal. it’s that blasted singing! so i finally sucked it up and sang a garbage song as my warm up song, and people actually clapped and told me it was good. (i got 96%!!) who me? good at singing? who knew?? after that i sang another weezer song and then a killers song and it was time to go (we had been switching off between a few of us to sing). I’m so into this game now!! and most amazing of all, i don’t suck at singing!

i wont attempt to parlay this into any type of singing career, I’m not that good, but I’m ok enough that nobody ran from the room screaming “my ears! my ears! oh the humanity!” :)

Next time i’m paying someone to do it (pt 2)

Posted by Lynn on May 21st, 2008

i am so tired. i had to go back and read what i wrote for part one so i don’t end up repeating myself here.

we are in the new apartment, the unpacking is progressing. we ended up having to go back to the old place for two last trips of stuff and to clean on Thursday which wasn’t so bad. at that point though i was just telling J to throw everything away rather than move it. luckily he doesn’t listen when i say that stuff so everything made it over unscathed. we worked on getting a little bit done in each room on Thursday and then took a break and met up with everyone at Brian’s house for the trip to Wing Dome. (yes, there will be a real post devoted to the antics as well as photos) We hung out for that and had food and beer and watched the test of manliness go on and then booked it home as we still were unpacking and both had to work the next day.

Next time, i’m paying someone to do it (pt1)

Posted by Lynn on May 16th, 2008

oh moving… it seems so fun at first. then the reality of it sets in. not only do you live out of boxes for the week or two prior, but once you do move it’s like a box bomb has exploded in your house and it’s a miracle to even find the toothpaste let alone the cat.

We have spent the last two days moving from one apartment into a new one. the new one boasts 1000 square feet(!) and is so roomy and open. Thing is, we had a TON of storage (two extra closets, linen closet and a pantry) in the smaller apartment, so we have accumulated a lot of miscellaneous items that now need new homes. we are purging anything that we absolutely don’t need. but it’s a hard call to make when you still aren’t totally unpacked.

Maybe i should back up a bit…
